VOTE FOR MATTY O!!; Camps; Exhibition Nights; Student Teachers
3rd October 2022

Our very own ARIA-nominated music teacher and local rocker Matt Orchard landed the school in the national spotlight this month. Matty O is one of only four teachers Australia-wide to earn a nomination for the 2022 ARIA Music Teacher Award. As part of the nomination process, the school welcomed famed Silverchair drummer Ben Gillies to the school to congratulate Matty O on his achievement.  Gillies jammed with our students in the House of Rock and unveiled another surprise for Matty O when Hollywood star Jack Black, the lead of hit movie School of Rock, sent a message of admiration to our much-loved teacher for the unique approach he uses to share a passion for music with his students. To watch how the nomination went down between Gillies and Matty O, featuring Jack Black, search Matt Orchard Aria Nomination on Youtube, and visit aria.com.au to vote for Matty O to take out the award, which he will travel to Sydney later in the year to attend the ARIAs and find out his fate.

Students have enjoyed a busy start to term four with camps in their very own back yard. The Grade Threes and Fours hopped on the big bus to stay at Kangaroobie and Year Eights also departed on Wednesday for a two-night stay at Bimbi Park. The Year Eights had a big week after joining with the Year Sevens for Exhibition Night on Tuesday to display the fantastic work they have achieved in Term Three.

The school was fortunate to have extra support in the classroom this week thanks to a trio of graduate teachers from Melbourne University. Melbourne Uni hosts a rural elective for final year students doing their masters degree, with the school more than happy for the three future leaders to observe what we deliver to students at Apollo Bay P-12 College.
